A few weeks ago, I went to a terrific Hearts at Home conference for moms called "Moms Day Out." One of the speakers was Karen Ehman, author of The Complete Guide to Getting and Staying Organized. In addition to helping mothers keep it simple and manage their messes, Karen has an amazing weight loss success story.
With the challenges of having three children, homeschooling, speaking and writing, Karen didn’t have a whole lot of extra time for things like exercise and diets. Like many women, she relieved her stress through eating. When she tipped the scales at 250 pounds, she knew something had to give.
Two factors pushed her over the edge. First, there were the medical issues. Whether it was bursitis or a lack of energy, Karen got tired of being sick. Second, she looked at herself in a photograph. Because she wasn’t happy with her body image, she normally shied away from the camera. But she saw herself one day, and desperately wanted a change.
She decided to put food in the proper perspective. No longer would it be her tranquilizer, her comforter, her escape. Instead, she would turn to God for the answers and friendship she needed. She joined a weight loss support group and slowly changed her eating and exercise habits. Her motto at the scale? Weigh and pray.
In just ten months, she went from a size 24 to a size 10! And more importantly, she has kept the weight off. Now don’t be deceived; it hasn’t been an easy road. But it is possible! Hear Karen talk about her weight struggles and victories in her inspirational interview on The 700 Club.
